UNSTACK

This game is played on a 7x7 square board with the following setup:

  • Definitions:
    • A stack is a group of two or more pieces piled together.
    • Sowing a stack means taking one or more of its pieces and place them over a path of orthogonally adjacent squares.
      • It is not required to sow all pieces from the original stack.
      • At least one piece must be placed on every passing square (so, it is legal to place more than one piece at the last sowed square).
      • If a passing square is occupied by a friendly piece/stack, the pieces accumulate.
      • If a passing square is occupied by an adversary piece/stack this stack is captured, but only if the number of current pieces in the player's hand is equal or larger than the size of the adversary stack, otherwise the move is illegal.
      • A sowing sequence can only do one capture.
  • On his turn, the player sows a friendly stack.
    • If no sows are available the player must pass his turn.
    • Captures are mandatory.
  • Goal - When both players pass, the game ends.
    • The player with more stones on the board wins the game.
    • If the number of stones are equal, the game is a draw.

Notice that only stacks are able to move, single stones do not capture or move at all.

An example

The black stack, unstacks one stone to cell [1].

White must capture it, by unstacking his stones to [2] and [1], capturing that black stone.

Then Black moves another stone to [1], capturing the white stone.

The game ends since there are no more stacks left.

Black wins 2-1.
